An ICL is
performed by placing an implant (like a contact lens) inside they eye
in front of the natural crystalline lens to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness
or astigmatism.
This procedure
is more invasive than LASIK and currently has not been perfected. Its
most significant issues involve: infection, cataract formation, corneal
decompensation, uveiitis and glaucoma. As techniques and products improve
ICLs will be more promising. Implantable Contact Lenses are currently
not FDA approved.
